Which connector is used in a cardboard display?
Panel thickness decides: push-fit dowels hold in thin board, while threaded types are needed in thick corrugated and honeycomb panels. The second factor is whether the joint has to be opened again.
Can a connector be removed and refitted?
Push-fit types are designed for a single assembly and mark the panel when forced open. Threaded types can be opened repeatedly, which is why flat-packed displays assembled in store use them.
Is a plastic connector as strong as metal?
For the loads a display carries, plastic connectors are sufficient and bring two advantages: they do not scratch the shelf or the packaging, and they recycle in the same stream as the body. Metal is only needed at unusually loaded points.
